How to use Francroyable

What is Francroyable?

Francroyable is a French language learning app that uses spaced repetition to help you memorise vocabulary efficiently. Flash cards are shown to you repeatedly, with more challenging cards appearing more often until you have mastered them.

The power of Francroyable is the ease with which you can create and manage your own flashcard decks. You can create a new flash card just by entering the word or phrase you want to learn. Francroyable will create a new flashcard for you and add it into the deck automatically.

Answering cards

Each card shows a French word or phrase on the front. Type your English translation into the answer box and press Enter or click Submit.

Some cards are multiple choice — select an answer by clicking it or pressing ⌘1, ⌘2, ⌘3, etc. Once you have answered, advance to the next card with ⌘C.

  • You have up to 3 attempts per card.
  • A correct answer on the first attempt earns 3 points.
  • Second attempt: 2 points. Third attempt: 1 point.
  • Three wrong answers in a row resets your current run score to zero.

Scores

  • Run — points earned in the current session. Resets to zero on a failed card.
  • Best — your highest run score ever.
  • Total — cumulative points across all sessions (saved to your account when signed in).

Creating your own decks

Sign in to create your own public or private decks on the My Decks page. There are several ways to add cards:

  • AI generation from a prompt — describe what you want to learn and Francroyable will generate an entire deck of cards for you automatically.
  • Generate one or many cards — use the Generate card button to create individual cards with AI, or enter multiple words or phrases (one per line) to generate several at once.
  • Cards with audio or video — generated cards can include audio pronunciation and video examples to enrich your learning.
  • Memory images — each card can have an image to help you remember the answer. You can generate one with AI by prompting for anything that might trigger the memory — it doesn't have to be literal. An image that reminds you of the sound of a word can be just as effective as one that shows its meaning. You can also upload your own image manually.
  • Manually — create cards entirely by hand, entering the French and English yourself.

You can also use the + button on the front page or the add card buttons within a deck to quickly add new cards while studying.

Your study list

Your study list is the curated set of decks that determines which flash cards are shown to you. Only cards from decks on your study list will appear during a session. You can add or remove decks at any time to focus on exactly what you want to learn.

Your study list is managed from the Study List page. You can also temporarily enable or disable individual decks from the settings sidebar without removing them from your list entirely — useful for focusing on a subset of your decks for a session.

Exploring public decks

The Explore Decks page gives you access to a library of publicly available decks created by other users. Browse or search the list, then check the box next to any deck to add it to your study list. Uncheck it to remove it. Your own decks are shown with a user icon and are managed separately from your settings.

Settings

Click the settings icon in the header (when signed in) to manage your study list, switch themes, and configure other preferences.
